After paying a few dollars and jumping through a few hoops, I have my Brazilian travel visa! I'm not sure which made me happier - to actually get the visa or to use my newly learned Portuguese to say "obrigada!" (thank you) to the Consulate official. I think my enthusiasm was obvious when I stood outside the Consulate General Office of Brazil for several minutes with my new visa (fastened securely in my passport) in one hand and my Blackberry in the other, trying to get a good picture of the visa, Consulate's office and Brazilian flag.
Now all the legalities are out of the way.... Brazil, HERE I COME!
