She works as the Director of Youth Programs at her church and loves working with all types of youth. She hopes to start her Master's Program for Education Counseling. She is a fairly recent graduate from George Fox University with a BA in Writing and Literature.
Jessi loves to travel and volunteer. She feels like traveling makes you wiser by showing you how little you actually know. She had the incredible opportunity to work with women and children in South Africa, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and China through the Semester at Sea program she joined in 2007. There she also got to study under the Archbishop Desmund Tutu who inspired her to keep working for local and global change in everything she does.
She has also, luckily, been very involved in the Camping & Retreat Ministry in Oregon and has worked as summer staff on site, as well as deaned several high school and lower elementary week-long programs. She is an avid reader and minimally published writer who secretly loves children's literature as well as adult. She is also the recent mother of a 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd who has officially taken over most of her life!
This is Jessi's first involvement with any UMW program, but she is excited to do much more with her local group when she returns. She hopes that "in going to Brazil and joining the other wonderful women who are giving up 2 weeks of their life, we can share a passion with the women of Brazil, and a show a commitment that they are not alone. I hope leave as much of myself behind as we gain in the weeks to come!"
We are here to be light, bringing out the God colors in the world...if I make you light bearers, you do not think I am going to hide you under a bowl? Instead, I will put you on a stand, and let you shine! Matthew 5: 14-15
